XIII edition of the Student-Doctoral Scientific Conference "Neofonia" in Poznań

On January 9, 2025, the XIII edition of the Student-Doctoral Scientific Conference "Neofonia" will take place at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. The various faces of freedom and artistic autonomy have inspired the organizers to focus on "(un)said in music," which will be the theme of this year's discussions. The conference will be accompanied by an Intercollegiate Composition Concert and workshops titled "(Un)said in the Choir".

At 10:00 AM, the conference will begin with a lecture by Prof. Rafał Ciesielski titled "Freedom in Music – Around the Myth (?)". Following the lecture, students from across Poland will present their reflections on the topic, focusing on contemporary music – including what is commonly understood as "serious music," jazz, and electroacoustic music.

The "(Un)said in the Choir" workshops will take the audience into the world of music expressed visually. Dr. Sławomira Raczyńska, a faculty member at the Academy of Music in Poznań and choir conductor, along with the Academy's Chamber Choir, will explore a broad range of possible musical ambiguities in choral music – focusing on both traditionally notated works and graphic scores.

At 6:00 PM, the Intercollegiate Composition Concert will take place in the Aula Nova concert hall, featuring compositions by the youngest generation of composers. Students of composition and electroacoustic composition from music academies in Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk, Cracow, Warsaw, and Poznań will present their works. The evening will offer a diverse range of electroacoustic music, though those expecting more acoustic sounds will also find something to enjoy.

The event was organized by the Artistic and Scientific Circle of Composition and Music Theory Students at the Academy of Music in Poznań. The Intercollegiate Composition Concert was created in collaboration with the Electroacoustic Music Studio of the Academy of Music in Poznań (SMEAmuz Poznań).

The event is held under the honorary patronage of Prof. Hanna Kostrzewska, Rector of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań.
