The 10th jubilee edition of the "Music On The Heights" International Festival Of Chamber Music, dedicated to Krzysztof Penderecki on his 85th birthday, will be held on September 1-18, 2018 in Zakopane.
The "Music on the Heights" International Chamber Music Festival, which is organised by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Association in Zakopane, has been held every year in Zakopane, southern Poland, since 2009. The festival’s name refers both to the Tatra mountains which lie next to Zakopane, the resort town where the festival is held, and is also a reference to the high quality of music performed.
The festival will start with the Kronos Quartet concert. The world-famous ensemble will premiere Jagoda Szmytka's new piece. During the concerts of "Classical chamber musicians - yesterday and the day before yesterday" and "Reminiscences", works by Artur Malawski, Roman Maciejewski, Andrzej Panufnik and Dariusz Przybylski will be performed. The focus will be on Krzysztof Penderecki's music. Maestro will perform his works with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra during the final concert.
The festival will be accompanied by numerous cultural events. The Miejsce Cinema will screen The Manuscript found in Saragossa with the music of Krzysztof Penderecki. In addition, there will be exhibitions of painting and photography, as well as open meetings at Dom pod Jedlami with festival artists as part of the "Conversation Club on the Heights".
