20th Festival of Jewish Culture ‘Singer's Warsaw’

The 20th Festival of Jewish Culture ‘Singer's Warsaw’ will take place from the 26th of August to the 3rd of September, 2023 in Warsaw, but the first events of the spectacular jubilee edition will start on the 11th of August in Biłgoraj. Walks, exhibitions, music and theater will reign.

Warsaw | 13th Festival of Contemporary Music for Children ‘Little Warsaw Autumn’

Mala WJ 23Can contemporary music suck you in? We will find out on September 15-24, 2023 during the 13th Festival of Contemporary Music for Children ‘Little Warsaw Autumn’ and we will learn about new ideas, concepts and things thanks to which we can visit completely new, sounding worlds in deeper and more interesting ways. As part of this 'theatrical' Autumn, all the works and performances presented will be world premieres.

During this edition of 'Little Warsaw Autumn', the youngest listeners, alone or in the company of adults, will enter three spaces of unlimited musical imagination.

The first of them will be the famous land of Through the Looking-Glass: A Smile Without a Cat is an experiment - a para-opera performed by Agata Zubel, presented by means of a hologram that will draw the participants of this spectacle (literally) inside: to the intriguing world of Through the Looking-Glass.

The Young Orchestra of the Nowy Theater (MONT) led by Dagna Sadkowska and Sean Palmer will lead us to the land of Music and Animation over the bridge of sounds and images.

Korczew, Konstantynów, Kolano-Kolonia | ‘With classics through Poland': Agata Szymczewska and Wojciech Szymczewski

Z klasyka 10.8.23Thanks to the project ‘With classics through Poland', implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance, a family duo will perform in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. The violinist Agata Szymczewska and her brother, the pianist Wojciech Szymczewski, will present masterpieces of chamber music on the 10th of August at 17.00 at the Palace in Korczewo, 11th of August at 18.00 at the Municipal Cultural Center in Konstantynów and on the 12th of August, 2023 at 19.00 in the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Kolano-Kolonia.

In the interpretation of the artists we will hear Oberek by Grażyna Bacewicz, Mazur in G major Op. 7 by Emil Młynarski, Polonaise in D major op. 4, Legend Op. 17 and the Bagpiper Op. 9 by Henryk Wieniawski, as well as works by Franz Schubert, Jules Massenet and Béla Bartók.

Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

For the seventh time, the micro-concerts of WarszeMuzik - one of the most original festivals on the cultural map of Warsaw - will take place on August 5-27, 2023 in unusual locations of the capital. Admission to all events is free.

Throughout August, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, we will hear the music of the festival's patron - Mieczysław Weinberg - and other Polish composers of Jewish descent in tenement houses in Warsaw's Wola district and at the Umschlagplatz Monument. Those will be Ignacy Friedman, Szymon Laks, Aleksander Tansman, Andrzej Czajkowski and Karol Rathaus. As during previous festivals, there will also be works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Maurice Ravel and Felix Mendelssohn. The final concert of the festival will take place at Teatr Studio of S.I. Witkiewicz.

The programme of the project also includes historical walks around the former Northern District, led by Agnieszka Kuś, and a bicycle trip prepared by Paweł Łęczuk.

65th Tadeusz Baird Young Composers' Competition

KonkursBairda 23The Polish Composers' Union invites you to participate in the 65th Tadeusz Baird Young Composers' Competition. The subject of this year's Competition is a piece for orchestra referring to Polish dances, but not being their arrangement. The challenge for the contestant will be, above all, today's understanding of the role of Polish dances and their forms in contemporary music. Scores with the emblem should be submitted via email by the 30th of November, 2023.

The Competition is open to Polish composers (having Polish citizenship or the Pole's Card) who on the day of its closing are under 35 years of age.

The work submitted for the Competition may not be publicly performed or awarded in another competition before its adjudication. Duration of workd: 7'-8'.

The Jury of the Competition will be chaired by Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil

Poznań | Opera returns to Fredry street!

The Grand Theater in Poznań has started online ticket sales for the first three months of the new artistic season. After more than two years of renovation of the stage, it invites you to performances in the building at Fredry Street. The theme accompanying the 2023/2024 season is #RETURN. Nearly 140 events have been planned.

The upcoming season will be opened by the first edition of the Stanisław Moniuszko Festival, the patron of the Poznań opera scene. The first and most important event of the season will be the opening gala with Artur Ruciński

The premiere of the ballet The Snow Queen with music by Przemysław Zych and choreography by Robert Bondara will take place on the 27th of October. At the turn of February and March, the festival ‘Przedwiośnie baletowe’ is planned.

Zygmunt Marian Szweykowski passed away...

Szweykowski Zygmunt

On the 3rd of August, 2023, Prof. Zygmunt Marian Szweykowski (1929-2023) died in Cracow at the age of 94.

He was a musicologist and a member of the Polish Composers' Union since 1955. Funeral ceremonies took place on Thursday, the 10th of August 10 at the Salwator Cemetery in Cracow.

On the 5th of September, 2023, the auditions of the 2nd Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition will begin. Tickets for the final stages of all four categories and the awards gala are now on sale. Free tickets to the 1st and 2nd rounds of the auditions will be available soon.

103 soloists and 13 string quartets were qualified to the competition. The Director of the Competition agreed to admit a larger number of participants than stated in the regulations.

Jackowo, Redzikowo, Godętowo | 'With classics through Poland': Polish Violin Duo

On the 4th, 5th and 6th of August 2023, as part of the ‘With classics through Poland’ series, the Polish Violin Duo will perform in Folwark Jackowo (6.00 pm), in Lądowisko Kultury in Redzikowo (6.00 pm) and in the Godętowo Palace (4.00 pm).

The aim of the project, which began in the second half of 2019, is to reach smaller centers, cities, towns and villages with music programmes performed by the most outstanding Polish artists: to those audiences who have limited access to direct contact with classical music.

In August, the Polish Music Management, operating at the National Institute of Music and Dance, will visit Pomeranian Voivodeship together with the Polish Violin Duo.
