From May 14 to 18, 2025, the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk will host the jubilee 10th Johannes Brahms International Chamber Music Competition. Audiences can look forward to free competition auditions, a ceremonial opening concert, and, to conclude the event, the Laureates' Concert, presenting the best interpretations by the participants. Admission is free!
This prestigious event, organized by the Academy since 1997, attracts young chamber musicians from around the world, offering them an opportunity to launch an international career. Since 2021, the position of Artistic Director of the competition has been held by Dr. hab. Bogna Czerwińska-Szymula, Professor at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
The competition is addressed to ensembles in the following formations:
Participants will face a demanding repertoire including classical and romantic works (with mandatory compositions by the competition’s patron, Johannes Brahms) as well as contemporary works, including pieces by Polish composers.
The total prize pool for the competition amounts to €18,000.
Above all, the competition is a celebration of chamber music, which will resound in the interpretations of the most talented young artists. The competition program will include works by, among others, Andrzej Koszewski, Andrzej Panufnik, Artur Malawski, Mikołaj Górecki, Piotr Moss, and Robert Muczyński.
The competition is held under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk, and the Rector of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
The event is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
