The 12th edition of the Student Scientific Conference "The Ambiguity of Sound" is approaching. This year, it is being expanded into an interdisciplinary initiative called The Student Sound Forum. The event will take place on May 12–13, 2026, at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. The deadline for abstracts from active participants is 20 April 2026, whilst registration for passive participants remains open until 10 May 2026.
Since 2014, the Conference has served as an important platform for the exchange of ideas among young researchers working not only in music theory or musicology, but also in various fields of science and art in which reflection on music and sound plays a significant role.
The twelfth edition of the Conference is accompanied by the main theme "In Musical Symbiosis", which emphasizes a multiplicity of perspectives, diversity of approaches, the importance of collaboration in pursuing the overarching goal - music - as well as dialogue between different areas of art and science. The event program will include not only academic papers, but also two thematic panels: a discussion panel devoted to collaboration within the musical community and the diversity of interpretations of a musical work, and an environmental panel addressing challenges related to environmentally sustainable artistic practices.
This year’s edition will also feature a concert presenting compositions by students of the Wrocław Academy of Music, this time combined with graphic and painting works by students of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.
The Conference will be held in a hybrid format: presentations will take place on-site at the academy, while attendees will also be able to participate via an online broadcast.
The Student Sound Forum was co-funded by the Municipality of Wrocław as part of the Student Activity Fund (FAST) program, organized by the Wrocław Academic Centre.
The Conference partners are the Polish Composers' Union, the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers' Union, and PWM Edition.
Media patronage of the Conference is held by the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC.
