1st International Congress “Improvisation in Art and Everyday Life.”
Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice invites you to the first International Congress “Improvisation in Art and Everyday Life.”
This interdisciplinary event, taking place on 28–29 October 2025, will bring together the worlds of science, art, and everyday creative practices. Participation in the congress is subject to a fee.
Registration is open until:
– 15 August 2025 – for active participants (presenters)
– 30 September 2025 – for passive participants (audience)
The aim of the congress is to create a space for dialogue and inspiration among artists, researchers, educators, and practitioners for whom improvisation is a key tool—both on stage and in everyday life. That is why the congress will host distinguished creators, scholars, and experts from around the world, who will present the phenomenon of improvisation from various perspectives.
The international lineup of speakers and special guests includes renowned figures from the worlds of art and science, including:
– Charles Limb (neuroscience)
– Niels Rønsholdt (composition, contemporary music)
– Adam Strug (traditional music)
– Simon Procter (music therapy)
– Zbigniew Blukacz (painting)
– Monika Szczepanik (pedagogy)
– Ilona Trybuła (dance)
– Paweł Tomaszewski (jazz)
– Kris Jurga (social media)
The programme includes:
– Academic sessions
– Practical creative workshops
– A concert by the Vołosi ensemble
– Integration and networking events
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided from English into Polish and from Polish into English.
The organizers invite artists, researchers, students, educators, practitioners, and all those interested in the topic of improvisation to participate and engage in the discussion.

Congress participation fees:
Until 10 September:
– Regular: 300 PLN
– Students: 180 PLN
After 10 September:
– Regular: 400 PLN
– Students: 250 PLN
The registration fee includes:
– Access to all congress sessions
