The 20th Festival of Polish Music will take place on July 13-28, 2024 in Cracow: the programme of the anniversary edition will include two operas and three world premieres.
This year there are three anniversaries related to St. Jadwiga - the 650th anniversary of birth, the 640th anniversary of the coronation and the 625th anniversary of death of the patron saint of Poland, so the special event of the Festival will be a concert performance of Karol Kurpiński's opera Jadwiga - Queen of Poland at the Cracow Philharmonic on the July 12.
It will inaugurate the jubilee edition of the Festival on July 13 in the Jesuit Basilica Ensemble Peregrina from Basel under the direction of Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett.
Mazurkas by Polish composers of Jewish origin, performed by Marek Bracha, will be performed in the Tempel Synagogue.
On July 19, Radio Kraków will host an anniversary concert on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the artistic activity of Sinfonietta Cracovia and the 20th anniversary of the Polish Music Festival: the ensemble will perform the world premiere of Ukiyo-e No. 6 by Marcel Chyrzyński.
On July 20, at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center, we will hear the world-famous Motion Trio: the Polish premiere of a piece by its leader, Janusz Wojtarowicz - Accordion Fanfare.
The piano recital of Georgi Vasilev - the winner of the 3rd International Polish Music Competition organized by NIMiT - will take place on July 26 at the Collegium Novum of the Jagiellonian University.
The premiere of the opera Philaenis by Roman Statkowski at the Krakow Philharmonic will crown the 20th edition: the choir and orchestra of the Krakow Philharmonic will be conducted by Krzysztof Słowiński, the author of the new instrumentation of the work.
