The Festival of Polish Composers has been held in Bielsko-Biała since 1996. From the very beginning, its patron has been Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. Since 2010, the Festival has borne the composer's name. During the quarter-century of the FPC, over 500 compositions by 50 Polish composers were presented, 20 orchestras, 15 choirs, 11 chamber ensembles and over a hundred soloists and conductors performed. In 2005, it was at this festival that the world premiere of Górecki's String Quartet No. 3 ‘Songs are Sung’ by the Kronos Quartet took place.
