29th International Festival “Nova Music and Architecture” in Toruń

Information about the event | Toruń | 01 July 2025

The Toruń Symphony Orchestra invites you to the 29th International Festival “Nova Music and Architecture”, which will take place from July 1 to August 31, 2025. Classical, film, and popular music will resonate in both historic and modern architectural spaces across Toruń, including the Old Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Church, CKK Jordanki, the Artus Court, and the amphitheater of the Baj Pomorski Puppet Theater. A significant number of this year’s festival events will be free of charge.

The 29th edition will begin on the International Day of Architecture with a musical walking tour, “Toruń’s Music Trail”, culminating in an organ recital by Dawid Wesołowski. The official opening of the festival will take place on July 5 in the amphitheater of the Ethnographic Museum, where the Toruń Symphony Orchestra will present “Night Music: A Dusk Recital” starting at 9:00 PM.

This year’s lineup includes performances by internationally acclaimed pianist Adam Kośmieja, dancers from Indonesia, and laureates and finalists of the 6th Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition: Sunjae Ok, Wonbeen Chung (South Korea), and Carla Marrero Martinez (Spain).

On July 8, the unique sensory workshop “What Does Music Smell Like?” will be held, combining sound with scent. The event is inspired by the composition Dance of the Celestial Spheres by Adam Wesołowski, created to mark the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’s birth.

A festival highlight will be the European Piano Recital by Wojciech Waleczek, featuring 25 works from 27 European Union countries.

On August 1, Lily Phee (Singapore) will give a Chopin recital dedicated to the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

The August 10 concert is a Special Award from TSO (Toruń Symphony Orchestra), granted to the ensemble Quintessence during the 3rd International Polish Music Competition. Their performance will feature wind instrument works by renowned Central and Eastern European composers, including Wojciech Kilar’s Quintet.

The August 16 concert is another Special Award, granted by TSO musicians during the 6th Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition. Violinist Sunjae Ok will be accompanied by the Toruń Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Adam Banaszek. The program will include exclusively Polish music from the 20th and 21st centuries.

On July 20, a special interactive concert for children, “Czereśnie in the City”, will take place. It will feature music for children composed by Andrzej Zagajewski, recipient of the Polityka Passport Award in the “Popular Music” category, educator, and music producer.
