The intriguing concert program of the Musica Moderna festival and the opportunity to meet special guests at the upcoming edition are just some of the reasons to visit the Academy of Music in Łódź at the beginning of December. As part of the upcoming edition, we will traditionally listen to the music of composers strongly connected with the city and give a voice to younger-generation composers. The 84th Musica Moderna will run from December 4 to 12, 2024. All events are free to attend.
The 84th edition will be inaugurated with a meeting with Danish composer, performer, and installation artist Simon Steen-Andersen (December 4). Later the same day, the music of this Danish artist will be performed as part of the AŻ Festival organized by the Łódź music academy at the Concert Hall on Żubardzka Street. During the concert *"Directed Spaces"* led by Szymon Bywalec, the New Music Orchestra will perform his audiovisual work *Black Box Music*.
In addition to a concert presenting chamber works by the faculty of the Łódź Academy (Olga Hans, Maciej Kabza, Sławomir Kaczorowski, Grzegorz Łapiński), this edition of the festival will be dominated by multimedia and electronics: a screening of student film etudes at the friendly Ignorantka café (December 5), a concert by the Studio of Electronic Music (December 12), and a multimedia presentation by Marta Śniady (December 12). Music involving electronic media, including *Breathe* by Rafał Ryterski, will also be presented by the Wrocław-based trio Ensamble Kompopolex, specializing in presenting contemporary music (December 11).
The festival is organized by the Department of Composition at the Academy of Music in Łódź and the Polish Composers’ Union, with the Ignorantka café and the Student Scientific Society of Composition, Conducting, and Music Theory of the Łódź music academy as event partners.
