Aka Duo, the winners of the 3rd International Polish Music Competition organized by NIMiT, will perform at the National Forum of Music on December 15, 2024, at 7:00 PM. During this concert, they will explore the repertoire of leading composers of the Classical and Romantic eras, but will also perform works by Polish composers from the 20th century—Artur Malawski and Miłosz Magin.
The duo was formed in 2018 and consists of violinist Seina Matsuoka and pianist Yuto Kiguchi, both graduates of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and laureates of prestigious competitions, including the International Chamber Music Competition "Giulio Rospigliosi" in Tuscany.
As they themselves admit, the International Polish Music Competition has inspired them to include many works by Polish composers in their repertoire. One such piece will be Artur Malawski's Burleska (1940), in which the composer places both the violin and piano parts on equal footing. A contrast to this, in a more subtle and melancholic mood, is Andante (1963) by Miłosz Magin, composed for violin and piano during the early years after the composer’s move to Paris.
The program will also feature Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 8 in G major, Op. 30 No. 3, Eugène Ysaÿe’s Rêve d’enfanti (Child's Dream), Op. 14, and César Franck’s Violin Sonata in A major.
