Richard Strauss, while composing his Alpine Symphony, intended to embrace the idea of being humble towards nature. Yaroslav Shemet will lead the symphony orchestra to perform this unusual work on April 17, 2026 at 7.00 pm at the Silesian Philharmonic. The program will also include two compositions by Wojciech Kilar which capture the raw beauty of the Tatra Mountains and the rhythm of Polish folk dances.
Orawa and Krzesany, Kilar’s symphonic poems inspired by the music of the Podhale region, are works with extraordinary and powerful expression. The evening will be concluded with the monumental Alpine Symphony which was written for almost 130 instruments, including 20 horns, an organ, a celesta, two harps, tubular bells, and even a wind machine.
The concert will be preceded by a meeting of a "Philharmonic Connects" cycle at 5.00 pm at Kawiarnia nad Dachami, featuring Regina Gowarzewska, director of the Silesian Philharmonic Concert Office.
Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC is the media patron of the Silesian Philharmonic’s artistic season 2025/26.
