On December 5, 2024, at 6:00 PM, as part of the "Chór-mistrzowsko" cycle, the Silesian Philharmonic Choir will perform alongside the Juliusz Roger Choir from Rud. Under the direction of Jarosław Wolanin, they will present a program in which each piece relates to the idea of light as a symbol of hope, divine presence, and spiritual enlightenment.
The evening will begin with Lux aurumque (Light and Gold) by Eric Whitacre, an American contemporary composer known for his unique choral harmonies. This will be followed by Ave Maris Stella by Miłosz Bembinow, a prayer to the Virgin Mary, the Star of the Sea, who illuminates the path of the faithful in troubled times.
The Juliusz Roger Choir from Rud, under the direction of Maria Wiechoczek, will perform works by Józef Świder, Tullio Visioli, and César Franck. Tenor Tomasz Piechula will appear as a soloist, and the artists will be accompanied by organist Rafał Kaczorowski.
The choirs will also perform two songs from Henryk Mikołaj Górecki's Z pieśni kościelnych (From Sacred Songs): Zdrowaś bądź Maryja (Hail Mary) and Krzyknijmy wszyscy (Let Us All Cry Out).
The program will also include works by Edward Woodall Naylor and Gustav Holst.
