The Silesian Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Jarosław Wolanin, will perform on March 16 at 6:00 PM in a concert paying tribute to the memory of Jan Wojtacha, the founder and longtime conductor of the ensemble, as well as to the victims of the Upper Silesian Tragedy, the 80th anniversary of which falls in 2025.
The evening will begin with the deeply contemplative Salve Regina by Andrzej Krzanowski, which will lead us into the realm of the sacred. This contemporary composition, based on a prayer to the Virgin Mary, conveys an atmosphere of inner peace and hope, in which the prayerful plea gains extraordinary power.
The climax of the program will be Requiem Op. 9 by Maurice Duruflé – one of the most beautiful works of contemporary sacred music. Drawing inspiration from the Gregorian chant tradition, Duruflé created a piece for choir, soloists, and organ that combines the simplicity of prayer with refined, contemporary musical aesthetics. The mezzo-soprano and baritone parts will be performed by Natalia Łukaszewicz-Charabin and Michał Schoppa, with Adam Eibin accompanying them on the organ.
At 4:00 PM, as part of the "Chór-Mistrzowsko" cycle, Natalia Danielczyk will lead a workshop titled "Using the Alexander Technique in Working with the Voice."
