As part of the "Chór-mistrzowsko" series, on October 6, 2024, at 6:00 PM, the Silesian Philharmonic Choir, under the direction of the distinguished conductor Andreas Herrmann, will premiere Psalm VIII by Jarosław Mamczarski. Herrmann, who is the director of the Munich Philharmonic Choir and a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, will lead this performance.
Psalm VIII, a piece written for a cappella choir, was composed specifically for the Silesian Philharmonic Choir. Its modern form and refined harmonies are sure to provide listeners with an unforgettable experience, blending the spiritual depth of the psalm text with innovative compositional techniques.
The program will also include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Leonard Bernstein, all based on psalm texts in various languages. The concert will culminate with Bernstein's emotionally charged Chichester Psalms, arranged for countertenor, choir, and an instrumental ensemble consisting of organ, harp, and percussion. Maciej Wawrzynek, a countertenor, will perform as the soloist.
Before the concert, at 4:00 PM, there will be a workshop titled How to Achieve a Beautiful Choir Sound, led by Prof. Andreas Herrmann.
This event is part of the nationwide "Senior Weekend with Culture" initiative by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. As such, special tickets are available for 10 PLN.
