On January 19, 2025, the Feast of the Theophany (Epiphany) in the Eastern Christian liturgical calendar, the Silesian Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Jarosław Wolanin, will transport listeners into the world of sacred choral music and Eastern Christian spirituality. The concert, starting at 6:00 PM, will feature a program that includes both world premieres and masterpieces of choral sacred music, highlighting the traditions of Orthodox liturgical music.
The concert will include the world premiere of Rożdestwo Twoje by Adrian Robak, a work composed specifically for the Silesian Philharmonic Choir, based on liturgical texts related to the Nativity of Christ. Also premiered will be Kondakion and Tropar by Hanna Khazova, a Ukrainian composer residing in Katowice, who has created a composition inspired by the liturgical texts of the Feast of the Theophany.
The program will also feature exceptional works by both contemporary and classical composers of church music, including Boh priedwiecznyj by Romuald Twardowski, a piece from a cycle of Orthodox Christmas carols, as well as music by Dobri Hristov, Anton Pan, John Tavener, Arvo Pärt, and Einojuhani Rautavaara.
This evening promises to be a profound exploration of the rich spiritual and musical traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church, bringing together both contemporary voices and classical masterpieces in a unique and moving presentation.
