Development of the "Polish Music Library" Portal

As part of the ongoing project "Digitization and Online Sharing of the Digital Resources of PWM Edition and the Polish Composers’ Union", the Polish Music Library portal is set to undergo a series of updates and introduce many new features. We encourage you to register, explore the portal yourself, and follow the project's latest updates at https://polskabibliotekamuzyczna.pl/!

The Polish Music Library is a true treasure trove, and not only for music lovers. The portal brings together the digitized resources of PWM Edition: sheet music, an iconographic collection, and the online PWM Encyclopaedia of Music. The materials available on the website are available for everyone: art enthusiasts, beginners, professional musicians, and cultural researchers will find valuable, previously inaccessible materials in the Polish Music Library—extending well beyond the realm of music. The collection already includes approximately 14,000 musical scores, primarily by Polish composers, and about 19,000 iconographic objects, including photographs and graphics depicting the daily lives of artists, city panoramas, photos of historical monuments, ethnographic collections, manuscript scores, and letters. Furthermore, the Encyclopaedia provides access to around 3,500 entries selected from the iconic PWM Encyclopaedia of Music, which originally spanned 12 volumes, 2 supplements, and 5 special volumes.

As part of the ongoing project "Digitization and Online Sharing of the Digital Resources of PWM Edition and the Polish Composers’ Union", the Polish Music Library portal is set to undergo a series of updates and introduce many new features. In addition to materials related to the "Warsaw Autumn" International Festival of Contemporary Music, which belong to the Polish Composers’ Union, the website will also feature archival articles from "Ruch Muzyczny" and audio recordings of musical scores.

Furthermore, the Encyclopaedia will be expanded by nearly 2,000 entries, and the sheet music collection will be enriched with works by composers such as Grażyna Bacewicz, Zbigniew Bargielski, Witold Lutosławski, and Zygmunt Mycielski, among others.

The portal itself will also undergo a transformation, featuring a refreshed graphic design and new tabs dedicated to the latest resources. Additionally, user accounts will be significantly enhanced with expanded functionalities.

The website will introduce gamification and interactive materials, including a lesson plan creator, music games, and many more additional features.

The project "Digitization and Online Sharing of the Digital Resources of PWM Edition and the Polish Composers’ Union" is co-financed under Measure FERC.02.03 "Digital Accessibility and Reuse of Information" as part of Priority II of the European Funds for Digital Development 2021–2027 program.
