The aim of the project, implemented by the Krea Music Foundation in the years 2021-2022 as part of the Creative Scholarship of the City of Bydgoszcz and co-financed from the budget of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Self-government, is the archiving and digitization of the private archive of Zbigniew Chwedczuk - a figure extremely important to Polish musical life, in particular Bydgoszcz and the whole region.
Zbigniew Chwedczuk - a prominent figure on the Polish musical scene, especially in the artistic circles of Bydgoszcz and the Pomeranian region, a conductor, composer and long-lasting artistic director of the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz (1958-1972) and the Baltic Opera, a recipient of the Gold Cross of Merit and the Order of Polonia Restituta, for whom the overriding goal was to promote Polish music through performances and recordings. In 2021 he would be celebrating his 100th birthday and in 2022 the 50th anniversary as the artistic director of the Philharmonic.
The archive exhibits important collections documenting Polish musical culture, in particular from the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region. It contains records of the Philharmonic activity since its onset - several dozen bound periodicals of seasonal events (from 1948 until the end the70s) with programmes featuring concerts conducted by Z. Chwedczuk and the Pomeranian Philharmonic, interviews and reviews from local newspapers, including those no longer existing, as well as foreign articles from tournees and archived photos of the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra and its guest artists.
The complete archive featuring original materials will be handed over to the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz.
