On 29 November 2025 at 8:00 p.m., a concert will take place in the Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, featuring the world premieres of works awarded in the Feliks Konopasek Composition Competition for concert wind orchestra, organised by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
The Feliks Konopasek Composition Competition is a new initiative and part of a series of projects launched by the National Institute of Music and Dance in 2024, aimed at supporting and promoting the activity of Polish wind orchestras. It is currently being implemented as the pilot project “Wind Orchestra Workshop.” The goal of the competition is to inspire the creation of artistically, educationally, and concert-wise valuable compositions that can enter the repertoire of both professional and amateur wind orchestras.
The competition’s patron, Feliks Konopasek (1860–1930), was a Polish composer, conductor, educator, and cultural activist, distinguished in many fields, including amateur music-making. He authored numerous choral, chamber, and piano works, as well as compositions and arrangements for wind orchestra.
In the first edition of the competition, three works were awarded: Baltic Rhapsody by Wojciech Chałupka (1st Prize), llamas run and turtles dance by Nikodem Kluczyński (2nd Prize), and Sviatovid by Dominik Radoń (3rd Prize).
These works will be performed during the Final Gala of the Warsaw Wind Band Conducting Competition by the Concert Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Armed Forces, conducted by Lt. Col. Marcin Ślązak and the winner of the Warsaw Wind Band Conducting Competition 2025.
