Final Concert of the 4th Gregorian Chant Course "Convivium Gregorianum" and Premieres in Wrocław
Enthusiasts of Gregorian chant and polyphony will have another opportunity to develop their skills in Wrocław from July 13 to 19, 2025. The 4th National Course of Gregorian Chant "Convivium Gregorianum", organized by the "Lumen de Lumine" Foundation, will culminate in a concert on July 18 at 7:30 PM at the Rectoral Church of St. Matthias in Wrocław. The concert will feature Polish premieres of works composed in the alternatim technique by Katarzyna Danel and Francesco Gabellieri.
The course program includes the interpretation of Gregorian chant based on the earliest written sources from the 10th and 11th centuries. Scheduled activities include sung lauds, Masses, and vespers, some accompanied by polyphonic music. The lecturers will be graduates of Polish and international music academies: the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome, the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, and the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań – Fr. Dr. Ján Vebacký, Prof. Dr. Marta Kierska-Witczak, and Łukasz Czartowski, president of the "Lumen de Lumine" Foundation.
The final concert, titled Nova et Vetera, will feature Gregorian chant and choral polyphony by Renaissance and contemporary composers. Schola Gregoriana Vratislaviensis, conducted by Łukasz Czartowski, will give the concert premiere of Salve Regina by Katarzyna Danel, commissioned by the Foundation, in the historical and religious heart of Wrocław. The Kyrie and Gloria from Missa cum Jubilo by Francesco Gabellieri will be performed for the first time in Poland. Course participants will also present works by Orlando di Lasso and Giovanni Paolo Cima, arranged with Polish texts by Łukasz Czartowski. Organ improvisations on Gregorian themes will be performed by Tomasz Kmita-Skarsgård.
