The spectacular finale of the 80th anniversary season of the Silesian Philharmonic encompasses everything expressed by the motto “Hear Silesia!” On June 20, 2025 at 7:00 PM, masterpieces by Karol Szymanowski and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki will enter into dialogue with Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life), performed by outstanding musicians.
The Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yaroslav Shemet, will perform Three Dances for Orchestra by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. The work is dedicated to Antoni Szafranek, a beloved teacher at the Secondary Music School in Rybnik, where Górecki began his formal music studies in 1952 in the instructor-pedagogical department.
The concert will culminate in the monumental vocal-instrumental Symphony No. 3 “Song of the Night” by Karol Szymanowski, inspired by a poem by the 13th-century Persian poet Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī. Joining the orchestra will be the Silesian Philharmonic Choir, with tenor Andrzej Lampert performing the solo part.
