Gòdowé spiéwë: Kaszubian carols in the interpretation of the Polish Chamber Choir

The concert dedicated to Kashubian traditions will take place on January 6, 2025, at 16:00 in the Oliwa Cathedral. The Polish Chamber Choir, conducted by Jan Łukaszewski, will present virtuoso arrangements of Kashubian carols.

The traditional, charming Kashubian carols also reflect the identity of this ethnic group and the local color: shepherds run through Kashubian hills, playing trumpets to the Newborn, an inseparable element of this musical greeting is the violin, and the Infant receives gifts from people, including a dozen eggs, stuffed pigeons, and a piece of butter. This musical tradition was also referenced by professional composers, including Edward Pałłasz, an outstanding Polish composer, who described himself as a Kaszubo-Kociewiak. During the New Year's concert, the ensemble will present 11 Kashubian carols in his arrangements.

The program will also feature arrangements of Kashubian carols by Ireneusz Łukaszewski, the founder and first conductor of the Polish Chamber Choir. It is worth noting that he was one of the first choir masters to include Kashubian music in the repertoires of the ensembles he led, significantly contributing to its popularization. The concert will conclude with the choral piece The Three Kings by Ireneusz Łukaszewski.
