The Silesian Philharmonic will inaugurate their 80th jubilee artistic season with a concert on September 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., which will introduce us to the atmosphere of the entire season – filled with music by Silesian composers as well as great global symphonic works. The orchestra, under the baton of its chief conductor and artistic director, Yaroslav Shemet, will perform works by Wojciech Kilar and Gustav Mahler.
The evening will begin with jubilee fanfares for horns, trumpets, and trombones, opening Wojciech Kilar's Solemn Overture. This work was commissioned by the city of Katowice and was premiered by the Silesian Philharmonic during the 145th anniversary of the granting of city rights.
Continuing the "Mahler cycle," in which all of Gustav Mahler's symphonies are performed at the Silesian Philharmonic, the second piece of the inaugural evening will be Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E minor, which the composer himself regarded as his best work.
