Composer and conductor Jerzy Maksymiuk will celebrate his 80th birthday on April 9, 2016. On this occasion, the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra under his direction, joined by pianist Dmitri Alexeev, will perform a concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic.
Jerzy Maksymiuk's anniversary celebrations already begun in late 2015 with the release of the double album Maksymiuk | Sinfonia Varsovia, which contains remastered historic recordings made by the Polish Chamber Orchestra, including Adam Jarzębski’s famous Tamburetta and new interpretations of works such as Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird and Claude Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.
The mutual journey of Jerzy Maksymiuk and the Orchestra dates back to 1972. The artist is the founder of the Polish Chamber Orchestra, which he directed for 10 years, taking the ensemble to a level of perfection. He has acknowledged several times that this enormous achievement was possible only thanks to hard work and musicans’ will to follow his vision and adjust to the "Maksymiuk tempo" of working and playing. This resulted not only in achieving great recognition all over the world, but also led to increasing the size of the ensemble and the formation of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.
