The Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music and the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Society in Bydgoszcz invite composition students from all eight music academies in Poland to participate in the 3rd edition of the competition "The Dark Side of Art." As in previous editions, students will compose miniature pieces for instruments selected by the jury within 12 night hours (from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM the following day). The application deadline is October 25th.
In the first stage (qualifications), the jury will select one student from each music academy and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. To participate, students must submit a representative score of their work by October 25th. The highest-rated student from each institution will advance to the second stage.
The second stage will take place overnight on November 22nd/23rd at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. Before the competition begins, each participant will draw individual requirements that must be incorporated into their composition. During the competition, instrumentalists will be available to consult with the composers. Each participant will be provided with a room equipped with a keyboard instrument, sheet music paper, writing tools, and plenty of coffee!
The competition will also feature workshops on instrument knowledge and improving digital skills in music notation editing. These workshops will be available online, allowing creative industry professionals to participate as well.
On January 19th, 2025, the Concert Hall of the Academy will host laureates' concert, where all compositions from the second stage will be performed. After the concert, the jury will announce the final results.
The winners of the first three places will receive the title of laureate and cash prizes:
