The current artistic season of the Cracow Philharmonic is particularly special due to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the first concert performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra after the German troops left Cracow. This event took place on February 3, 1945. Almost exactly 80 years later, on January 31 at 7:30 PM in the Philharmonic and on February 1 at 6:00 PM at the ICE Cracow Congress Centre, anniversary concerts will be held, recreating the original program under the baton of Zygmunt Latoszewski.
The Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by three maestros closely associated with the institution: Jerzy Maksymiuk, the Philharmonic’s artistic advisor from 1992 to 1998; Antoni Wit, Honorary Conductor of the Kraków Philharmonic since 2013; and the current artistic director, Alexander Humala. The soloist for these concerts will be pianist Jan Lisiecki.
During these extraordinary concerts, the Eternal Songs by Mieczysław Karłowicz, Chopin’s Piano Concerto in F minor, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique" will be performed.
The culmination of this anniversary will include honoring the people who have contributed to the Cracow Philharmonic. On January 31, prior to the concert in the concert hall, the award winners will be announced.
Additionally, on February 1 at 4:30 PM at the ICE Congress Centre, there will be a premiere meeting with Dr. Maria Wilczek-Krupa, the Vice-Rector for Students and Promotion at the Cracow Academy of Music and a member of Polish Composers’ Union, author of the newly published book “One Life Is the Whole World. On the Beginnings of the Cracow Philharmonic”. After the Saturday concert, at approximately 8:00 PM in the ICE Centre’s foyer, the "Wszystko Gra” Music Discussion Club will host the three conductors under whom the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform that day. Agnieszka Malatyńska-Stankiewicz will lead a journey full of memories of the Cracow Philharmonic with Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, Alexander Humala, and Jan Lisiecki. Both of the announced events are free of charge.
