"Marek Stachowski – Magdalena Długosz. Masters and Their Students” in Cracow

"Marek Stachowski – Magdalena Długosz. Masters and Their Students" is the seventh event in the "Masters and Their Students" series organized by Cracow branch of the Polish Composers' Union and the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow. The concert will take place on November 13, 2024, at 7:00 PM in the "Florianka" Hall (Sereno Fenna 15). Admission is free!

The idea behind this series is to present two outstanding Cracow composers-educators and their graduates, whose works have already received recognition and are presented on stages across Europe.

This year, the Masters will be Marek Stachowski (on the 20th anniversary of his death) and Magdalena Długosz (on the 70th anniversary of her birth).

In addition to the Masters' works, the concert will feature compositions by their students: Mateusz Bienia and Maciej Jabłoński (from Prof. Stachowski's class), and Zofia Dowgiałło and Piotr Roemer (from Prof. Długosz's class). The students have composed their works specifically for this occasion and dedicated them to their Masters. We will take part in the world premieres of Mateusz Bień’s Akwarele for clarinet and piano (2024), Maciej Jabłoński's Seuil for clarinet, piano, and electroacoustic layer (2024), Piotr Roemer's Sinfonia. Omaggio a Giacinto Scelsi for saxophone, vibraphone, and electronics (2024), and Zofia Dowgiałło's Dźwięki późne for alto saxophone, percussion, and electronics (2024).

How much of the master remains in the student? In what ways have students developed or rejected the master's ideas? Have the students found their own original musical language? These are questions we ask ourselves with each edition of the series. I hope you will find the answers at the November concert.
