Violinist Maxim Vengerov, accompanied by the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Piotr Sułkowski, will perform compositions by Henryk Wieniawski on April 8, 2016 at the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn.
Born in 1974, Maxim Vengerov began his career as a solo violinist at the age of 5, winning the Wieniawski and Carl Flesch international competitions at ten and fifteen years old respectively. Inspired by many different styles of music, including baroque, jazz and rock, in 2007 he followed in the footsteps of his mentors, the late Mstislav Rostropovich and Daniel Barenboim and turned his attention to conducting. He has held various teaching positions around the world and is currently visiting professor of the Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland (IMMA) as well as at the Royal Academy of Music London. The artist has served on numerous juries including the Menuhin Violin Competition and the prestigious Wieniawski Violin Competition (2011), to which he has been re-elected to return as chairman in 2016.
At the concert in Olszyn, entitled Tribute to Henryk Wieniawski, Vengerov will present his interpretation of Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22, Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 15, Polonaise de concert, Op. 4 and Légende, Op. 17.
