All the works to be performed by the Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej on January 19th, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the NOSPR concert hall have had a profound impact on 20th and 21st-century music. Under the baton of Szymon Bywalec, we will hear compositions by three outstanding composers of the 20th and 21st centuries: Witold Lutosławski, Kaija Saariaho, and Steve Reich. The evening will be graced by the performance of world-class Danish cellist, Jakob Kullberg.
In his interpretation, characterized by deep sensitivity and technical perfection, we will hear the Cello Concerto "Notes on Light" by Kaija Saariaho.
The concert will open with Witold Lutosławski's groundbreaking work, "Venetian Games", which marked a turning point in his music, distinguished by the use of a new compositional technique, so-called controlled aleatorism. The piece received the main recommendation at the International Rostrum of Composers in Paris in 1962 and, according to Andrzej Chłopecki, was Lutosławski's most avant-garde and innovative score.
The evening will conclude with Steve Reich's energetic "City Life", in which the composer combined minimalist structures with authentic sounds of New York: car horns, slamming doors, subway noises, and fire alarms.
The Polish Music Information Center POLMIC is the media patron of the 2024/2025 NOSPR concert season.
