The second concert in the “Music and Us” series, organized by the Art Deco Group Music Agency, will take place on September 26, 2025, at 5:00 PM in Smardzewice, at the Cultural Centre and Library of the Tomaszów Mazowiecki Municipality. The program will feature contemporary chamber music performed by clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer Bartosz Smorągiewicz. The artist will also introduce selected works and invite the audience to join a collective improvisation. Contemporary chamber music offers a journey through the diverse and imaginative soundscapes of today’s composers. The Art Deco Group aims to bring these works to audiences in smaller towns, presenting new compositions for solo instruments. Participation is free of charge.
In the second part of the concert, Bartosz Smorągiewicz will engage the audience in a collaborative artistic activity – group improvisation based on selected musical elements introduced earlier in the program. As the organizers note: “Workshop? Lecture? Concert? Play? Perhaps immersive analysis, hybrid concert, or experimental musical discourse... The final definition is yet to come, but one thing is certain: it will not be boring.” Audience members will also have the opportunity to play along with the soloist on their own instruments.
Bartosz Smorągiewicz is a graduate of jazz saxophone and composition at the University of Music in Würzburg. As a saxophonist and clarinetist, he has performed in Europe and the United States. Among his achievements is the award from the American organization Meet The Composer, which provided funding for the project Diaspora Crossings—a series of concerts in New York created in collaboration with Japanese musicians Nobuko Miyazaki, Emi Inaba, Yoko ‘Layio’ Nakahashi, and cellist Izabela Buchowska. His music has been performed by, among others, the Würzburger Jazz Orchestra (Germany), the UMFC Big Band in Warsaw, and the Big Band of the Academy of Music in Poznań.
