The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the uprising in the capital on August 1, 2024 will be highlighted by the slogan "For freedom", which refers to the main value of the people of Warsaw fighting at that time. The program will include, among others, three concerts and the premiere of the opera D'ARC directed by Krystian Lady.
This year's concert "Warsaw people sing (un)forbidden songs", according to tradition, will take place on August 1 at 8:30 p.m. at Piłsudski Square. The orchestra and choir under the direction of Jan Stokłosa, together with the audience, will perform insurrectionary songs composed, among others, by famous Polish composers and cultural activists: Karol Kurpiński, Andrzej Panufnik, Jan Ekier, Jerzy Dargiel, Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, Michał Zieliński and Jan Markowski. This year's concert will be hosted by Jan Emil Młynarski, and the songbooks will soon be available for download on 1944.pl social media of the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
August 1 at 24.00, the Warsaw Uprising Museum will host the premiere of the opera D'ARC based on a libretto by Anka Herbut and Łukasz Barys, who are based on motifs from the diaries of artists participating in the Warsaw Uprising and the story of Joan of Arc. Artists invitedto cooperate are Wojciech Błażejczyk, Rafał Ryterski, Dobrawa Czocher and Teoniki Rożynek. The creators also added rarely performed songs by the Insurgent artist Roman Padlewski and Julius Eastman to the score. Their music will be performed by the Hashtag Ensemble, Match Match Ensemble under the direction of Lilianna Krych, as well as soloists: cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher, actress Agnieszka Grochowska, soprano Gabriela Legun and baritone Szymon Komasa.
The opera will be repeated on August 3–6 at 9 p.m.
The program also includes a concert for children by the Małe TGD band "W jak Important", as well as a concert by Brodka and the premiere of her album "Wawa".
