The event dedicated to the latest book by Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, Zygmunt Mycielski. Between Music and Politics, published by PWM, will take place on June 24, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the UNA Bookstore-Cafe (Rynek Główny 36) in Kraków. The meeting with the author will be hosted by Mateusz Borkowski. Admission is free.
It is a precisely drawn portrait of a composer, intellectual, and witness to a turbulent history. Written with scholarly precision yet without academic detachment, this monumental monograph will satisfy the curiosity of music lovers and 20th-century music researchers alike. The author does not focus on detailed analyses of Mycielski's compositional language, although this does not mean she treats his oeuvre perfunctorily; she views his music as a "reflection of the entirety of his interests" and inextricably links his creative output with his biography. She frequently lets the composer speak for himself, drawing on his numerous texts, notes, and letters.
Following the event, there will be an opportunity to obtain the author's autograph.
