New Music Orchestra: "Mobile Residencies”

Information about the event | Łódź | 22 October 2025

The New Music Orchestra will return to Łódź as part of the project “OMN Mobile Residencies 3.0”—a concert series aimed at introducing 21st-century music to new audiences. The program of the concert on 22 October 2025 at 6:00 PM at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź brings together works by four composers for whom contemporary music is not only an artistic choice, but also a way of speaking about the world and about humanity.

The guiding idea of the project is to show that new music can be more than just a field of experimentation—it can be a space of moving emotions, deep reflection, and beauty that resonates with every listener.

The program will feature works by Tomasz Jakub Opałka, Paweł Malinowski, Trond Reinholdtsen, and Kamil Kruk. Performing will be not only the New Music Orchestra, but also the ensemble SoundCheck, conducted by Szymon Bywalec and Maciej Koczur, with soloist Kacper Pałuba.

The concert will open with Violin Concerto No. 2 “Afterglow” by Tomasz Jakub Opałka—a piece the composer wrote with exceptionally sensitive and courageous soloists in mind.

Paweł Malinowski’s work Floating:disappearance, premiered in May at the International Festival of Krakow Composers, takes listeners into a world of subtle sounds and emotions that hover between presence and disappearance.

In Unsichtbare Musik, Norwegian artist Trond Reinholdtsen leads us into the realm of conceptual music, where the boundaries between sound, performance, and philosophical reflection nearly dissolve. It is a work that challenges the very notion of “visible music” and turns the listener’s attention toward what is hidden, ephemeral, and elusive.

The concert will conclude with Firmamentum by Kamil Kruk, a piece for a 32-member instrumental ensemble arranged in a spatial setup.

Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund—a state special-purpose fund—under the “Music” program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
