New Music Orchestra Presents Its Composers' Commissions for the Second Time

Information about the event | Wrocław | 17 November 2025

The New Music Orchestra, conducted by Szymon Bywalec, continues its autumn cycle of world premieres. On November 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., at the Academy of Music in Wrocław, the ensemble will present four of the newest works by Polish and international composers, all commissioned by this renowned group. Admission is free!

The “regulars” will perform pieces united by a fresh perspective on the relationship between humans, technology, community, and sound. Each work demonstrates how diverse and unexpected contemporary musical languages have become, and how the genre and form of the modern concert are being redefined:

  • Posthumana II by Cezary Duchnowski reflects on humanity’s place in a world dominated by technology, balancing the real and virtual, and the interaction between musician gestures and machine responses.
  • Unconcerted by Nikolet Burzyńska is a musical dialogue between individuality and community. Drawing on the concerto grosso tradition, it transforms rivalry into co-creation and collaboration.
  • Comme un soupir étouffé by Monika Szpyrka is inspired by the baroque rhetorical figure suspiratio, where the instrumental ensemble becomes a breathing organism, reacting and sighing through sound.
  • Polaroid by Cristian Lolea is a musical mosaic of identity and memory, reflecting on the contemporary pace of perception and the transformation of the way we “take pictures” with sound.

This concert is the second installment in the series presenting works commissioned by the New Music Orchestra as part of the “Composers’ Commissions” program, organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance and funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage through the Cultural Promotion Fund.
