The program for the evening of March 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Silesian Philharmonic is an excellent illustration of the presence of the so-called "Polish tradition" in piano music. While listening to the works of two 20th-century classics interpreted by Piotr Sałajczyk, the spirit of Chopin will subtly resonate.
The evening will begin with the Piano Sonata composed by the twenty-one-year-old Witold Lutosławski, written during a time when he was fascinated by the instrumental music of Karol Szymanowski. Here, the piano will reveal itself as a source of various sound colors.
In Szymanowski's Masks, the piano will act as a narrator and portraitist. Three characters—Scheherazade, Tantris (Tristan), and Don Juan—form the literary framework of this mysterious and multi-layered work.
The "sound masks" will be framed by miniatures from two cycles inspired by Chopin's music: Szymanowski's Mazurkas and Lutosławski's Études.
