The latest project of the Polish National Youth Choir, "Rivers of Light and Voice", will be presented from August 21st to 23rd, 2025, in the exceptional venues of Lower Silesia: the Church of Peace in Świdnica, the Temple of Art and Light in Żeliszów, and the Lower Silesian Philharmonic. Under the direction of Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny and Māris Sirmais, the choir will perform works by acclaimed contemporary composers, based on folk motifs.
The concerts will be led by two outstanding figures of the choral scene: Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny – a respected conductor and artistic director of the choir – and Māris Sirmais, guest conductor of the Polish National Youth Choir, a renowned advocate of Latvian choral music, who brings to the project a unique sensitivity and deep understanding of Northern cultural codes.
The program includes Two Songs by Tadeusz Baird, which combine melancholic expression with the melodicism of Polish folk song; the reflective, almost meditative ...with a touch of the moment... by Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk; Sonnet VIII by Szymon Godziemba-Trytek, inspired by Shakespeare’s poetry; the intimate piece I Would Like to Sing to You by Marek Raczyński; and the vibrant, life-affirming Singin’ by Zuzanna Falkowska.
We will also hear works by Arvo Pärt, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Laura Jēkabsone, Rihards Sejans, Jēkabs Jančevskis, and Imants Ramiņš.
This event will not only showcase the diversity of contemporary choral music as interpreted by young singers from across the country but will also highlight its power as a medium that connects tradition with modernity and the local with the universal.
