On February 22, 2025, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, will be conducted by Maestro Paweł Kos-Nowicki, a renowned interpreter of oratorio music and classical works. In the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio, works by Camille Saint-Saëns, Franz Doppler, and Johannes Brahms will be performed, by a pair of outstanding flutists, Agata Kielar-Długosz and Łukasz Długosz, renowned modern virtuosos of the instrument with impressive concert and discographic achievements, taking the stage as soloists.
The evening will begin with the Overture to Camille Saint-Saëns' comic one-act opera La Princesse jaune, reflecting the oriental theme that was popular at the time.
Franz Doppler's Double Concerto in D minor* (the only work of this genre in his output) primarily highlights the lyrical qualities of the flutes, evoking the bel canto idiom of Italian composers of the era, which Doppler also drew from in his operas. These virtuosic passages will be performed by the distinguished Polish flute duo.
The concert will conclude with Brahms' Symphony No. 3 in F major, which was compared by the influential critic and Brahms' friend Edward Hanslick to Beethoven's Eroica, crowning the evening with the masterpieces of musical geniuses.
