This year’s MIDEM – the world’s greatest music record fair – will be held on 18th-21st January 2009 in Cannes, France. The Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has commissioned the Adam Mickiewicz Institute to run the Polish National Pavilion which will present the offer of Polish record companies and other musical institutions. One of these will be the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC. The aim of the whole project is to promote Polish musical culture and to offer a preview of the 2010 Chopin Year celebrations. At the Polish Pavilion, visitors will obtain information on: contemporary Polish music, the economic potential of the music industry in Poland, Polish jazz, and the preparations for the Chopin Year.
The Polish Music Information Centre will present a number of publications promoting Polish contemporary music (incl. “The Warsaw Autumn”), DVD albums dedicated to Karol Szymanowski and Witold Lutosławski, as well as a CD specially produced for the MIDEM - Polish 20th and 21st-Century Music. From Romanticism to New Avant-Garde – with compositions by Mieczysław Karłowicz, Grażyna Bacewicz, Krzysztof Knittel, Eugeniusz Knapik, Dobromiła Jaskot and Dariusz Przybylski. Throughout the MIDEM, we will also present our Internet site: www.polmic.pl. On 18th January at 6 pm, there will be an individual POLMIC presentation about the activities of the Polish Music Information Centre as well as the “Warsaw Autumn” Festival and the music market in Poland.
