Prelude to the 25th Music Gardens Festival at the Royal Castle – Open to Everyone!
On the eve of the grand opening of the 25th anniversary edition of the Music Gardens Festival, you’re invited to immerse yourself in nature – right in the heart of Warsaw!
On June 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, four free sound sessions will take place inside the festival tent. They will feature the sounds of water, birds, forest and meadow environments, as well as natural elements and weather phenomena – presented through musique concrète composed by Marcin Dymiter. Admission is free!
Following last year’s successful collaboration with the Polish Composers’ Union as part of the “Renewable Music” project, the Music Gardens Festival returns… to nature!
The four sound collages of natural phenomena were specially commissioned by the Festival and created by Marcin Dymiter, a renowned sound artist and pioneer of field recording in Poland.
As the artist writes:
“The sound collages we have the chance to hear are based on recordings from an archive I’ve been building for over a dozen years. Bird sanctuaries, city centers, gardens and parks, deep forests, rivers, streams, and the sea — these are all sonic phenomena that act as corridors into these places. They offer a chance to hear the complex, polyphonic structure of the acoustic landscape. Some sounds are disappearing, remaining only in the sonic memory of a few — which is why archives and field recording collections are so important. They become a record of change.”
We invite you to experience four sound sessions:
1. BIRDS (3:00–3:30 PM)
These field recordings were captured in parks, forests, nature reserves, and bird sanctuaries, by the sea, and around lakes in Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Iceland.
2. FOREST – MEADOW (3:45–4:15 PM)
Sounds of forests and reserves in Suwalszczyzna, Małopolska, the Masurian Lake District, Tricity Landscape Park, Kunratice Forest (Czech Republic), Słowiński National Park, Murckowski Forest Reserve, Wolin, and areas around Athens.
3. WATER (4:30–5:00 PM)
A musique concrète presentation based on field recordings near rivers, streams, lakes, bays, and coastal regions. In addition to standard recordings made with condenser microphones, we’ll also hear underwater recordings captured with a hydrophone!
4. ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA (5:15–5:45 PM)
These recordings of weather phenomena were made at various times of day and year, sometimes in extreme conditions — during gales, storms, and heavy rainfall.
