On May 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., the premiere of the opera Ajde by Monika Kozakiewicz—a fifth-year composition student in the class of Professor Aleksander Nowak—will take place in the Concert Hall of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. The production is directed by Grzegorz Eckert.
The performance will feature the Academic Baroque Orchestra under the baton of Professor Szymon Bywalec, with a guest appearance by Jan Wójcik on electric guitar. The Chamber Choir of the Academy of Music in Katowice will also perform. Among the soloists playing the main roles are: Wiktoria Giemza (The Person), Martin Filipiak (The Devil), Maciej Mikuszewski (The Embodiment), Liza Osipchuk (The Mentor), Bartłomiej Rygner (The Demon), and Emilia Głombica (The Enlightenment).
Ajde tells the story of a Person lost in the modern world, searching for love, understanding, and acceptance among those she encounters. Only a confrontation with her own "demons" gives her the strength to uncover the core truth about herself and to become the creator of her own life. The title refers to the Serbian folk song Ajde Jano, which celebrates a joyful, life-affirming attitude and freedom from anything that might constrain it.
The event is held under the Honorary Patronage of the Mayor of Katowice, Marcin Krupa.
