“Preparations and Repercussions” — a workshop at Warsaw’s Hashtag Lab on December 3rd, 2025, at 9:00 AM — will allow participants to begin or deepen their practice of free improvisation. It will be led by drummer and improviser Hubert Zemler and pianist Marta J. Bogusławska. The workshop is part of the “Esztényi in memoriam” event organized by the Department of Music Education and Eurhythmics at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, dedicated to the memory of Professor Szabolcs Esztényi, pianist, improviser, composer, and educator.
The workshop will focus on expanding the sonic possibilities of the piano through preparation, as well as on producing sounds from any part of the instrument.
“Yielding to the hypnotic effects of sounds that lie outside the grid of modern temperament, we will strive to free musical expression from the dictates of acquired habits. Working in trios and duos will foster a state of readiness to co-create musical texture without prior arrangements,” the instructors announce.
Marta J. Bogusławska and Hubert Zemler will also perform as a duo for the workshop participants, presenting various forms of musical communication by juxtaposing, among other elements, the sounds of the piano and percussion instruments.
The Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab is co-funded by the City of Warsaw.
