How to Start Improvising? Just come to the “Reading with Sound” improvisation workshop for youth aged 13+ and adults!
The workshop will take place at the Local Activity Centre (MAL Lokajskiego) in Warsaw’s Ursynów district, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The sessions will be led by outstanding artists: composer and pianist Jarosław Siwiński, double bassist Małgorzata Kołcz, composer Marzena Majcher, and singer and actor Rafał Grozdew. Participation is free, but the number of places is limited, so pre-registration is required.
This workshop is dedicated to everyone who enjoys making music and wants to explore improvisation – whether they have their own instrument or not. All are welcome – amateurs and professionals alike. Instruments will be provided for those who don’t have their own. It will be fun, relaxed, and, above all, highly creative! Every participant will receive a task tailored to their interests and abilities.
In the first part of the workshop, participants will be divided into groups to work with each of the instructors. Together with their mentors, they will “paint” sonic portraits and landscapes, and learn techniques such as controlled aleatoricism, sonorism, and collective improvisation.
The second part of the workshop – combining literature and music – will feature a reading of a specially prepared graphic score-text, performed by an actor. Participants will accompany the reading with improvised musical illustrations – both solo and as an ensemble.
The workshop will conclude with a short concert around 1:30 PM, during which all participants and instructors will perform together in a joint “Reading with Sound” session.
