On June 5, 2025, at 7:30 PM, at the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre in Nowa Huta, Piotr Orzechowski, widely known as “Pianohooligan,” will perform at the invitation of Sinfonietta Cracovia as part of the “Sinfonietta Nova” concert series. The special guest will join the Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Cracow to present a program of Polish and British music — highly expressive, yet also filled with deep, elegiac sounds.
As the organizers emphasize, “The evening with Sinfonietta and Piotr Orzechowski will be marked by contrasts — from pulsing, trance-like rhythms to subtle, lyrical tones that will fill the raw interior of the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre.”
The opening and closing pieces — Naninana by Aleksander Nowak and the Concerto for Harpsichord (or Piano) and String Orchestra by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki — will be performed in new interpretations by Piotr Orzechowski, featuring his own, improvised cadenzas.
The program will also include works by two contemporary women composers: the frenzied Concerto Rosso by Hanna Kulenty, featuring the orchestra and a quartet of Sinfonietta Cracovia’s female chamber musicians, and the elegiac Within Her Arms by Anna Clyne, an Anglo-American composer.
The participation of pianist and composer Piotr Orzechowski, winner of the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition, marks a brilliant conclusion to this season’s Sinfonietta Nova concert series.
The concert’s partner is the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre.
The concert is presented in cooperation with Polish Music Publishing House as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting the performance of Polish music.
