On September 30, musicologist Teresa Chylińska passed away at the age of 94. She was an honorary member of the Polish Composers’ Union, a long-time editor and author at the Polish Music Publishers (PWM).
In the 1970s, she lectured on the history of Polish music at the Institute of Musicology at the Jagiellonian University, and on the history of music publishing at the Academy of Music in Cracow. She served as secretary of the Cracow Branch of the Polish Book Publishers’ Association and was a member of the International Musicological Society. She held the position of president of the Karol Szymanowski Music Society in Zakopane (1979–1980). She was a member of the Scientific Council of the Fryderyk Chopin Society, a board member (secretary) of the Karol Szymanowski Foundation, and a juror for the Karol Szymanowski Award.
Between 1960 and 1980, she undertook numerous research trips in search of source materials related to Karol Szymanowski, visiting countries such as Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, the USSR, Lithuania, Ukraine, and the United States. She oversaw the scholarly, source-critical edition of Karol Szymanowski’s works — the first complete edition of the composer’s entire output: 26 volumes in Polish and 17 volumes in German-English.
For her many years of work, she was honored with numerous national and international awards and decorations.
May her memory be honored.
