The 80th Anniversary of the Polish Music Publishing House: "Musical Encounters" at the National Forum of Music!

In 2025, the Polish Music Publishing House (PWM) will celebrate its 80th anniversary with a series of concerts in renowned concert halls across the country, featuring world-renowned Polish and international artists. The program will showcase masterpieces by Polish composers, which PWM promotes worldwide. The publishing house invites everyone to join in the celebrations on March 7 and 8, 2025, in Wrocław.

On March 7, at the National Forum of Music (NFM), for the first time in Poland, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, conducted by Duncan Ward, will perform Na zewnątrz czasu by Agata Zubel, featuring a holographic soloist and orchestra. Bomsori Kim, the winner of the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, will perform Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 2, Op. 61, as well as the expressive and romantic Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz, in her own arrangement. From 2025, the Korean violinist will bear the title of ambassador for Bacewicz's work. Additionally, Witold Lutosławski's grand and virtuosic Concerto for Orchestra will be performed.

Thanks to the activities of PWM, forgotten works by Polish composers are being rediscovered and brought back to life on concert stages. On March 8, during the concert Kilar Rediscovered, the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra, conducted by Christian Danowicz, will perform, for the first time in seventy years, Siciliana for flute and string orchestra (1955) by Wojciech Kilar. The soloist and composer of the evening will be Zygmunt Krauze, who will perform one of his latest works, Tren pamięci Krzysztofa Pendereckiego (Elegy to the Memory of Krzysztof Penderecki) for piano and orchestra. The program will also include Three Pieces in the Old Style by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, the Overture to the opera Album rodzinny by Jerzy Kornowicz, and El Condor by Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil for string orchestra and two marimbas – the orchestra will be joined by the percussion duo Hob-beats (Miłosz Pękala and Magdalena Kordylasińska-Pękala).

Over these two days, a series of educational events will take place at NFM, including a meeting with the director and editor-in-chief of PWM, Dr. Daniel Cichy, chamber and choral concerts featuring LutosAir Quintet, Lutosławski Quartet, NFM Choir, and the NFM Boys' and Girls' Choirs. In the outdoor spaces, works by composers associated with PWM will be performed on a mobile carillon specially brought from Gdańsk by Monika Kaźmierczak.

Admission to the carillon recitals and choral concerts is free of charge.

The event is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
