The Open Theatre in Gdańsk invites you to the musical-theatrical performance "Letters from the Warsaw Uprising" on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, which will take place on October 4, 2024, at 6:30 PM in the Sopot City Hall Assembly Room.
One of the most significant patriotic uprisings of World War II was the Warsaw Uprising, which, despite the tragic circumstances, the deaths of thousands of people, and the complete destruction of the Polish capital by the Nazis, became a symbol of courage, bravery, and immense patriotism.
The performance, directed by Dariusz Wójcik, is organized by the Friends of the Open Theatre Association, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Barbara Lewicka (soprano), Jacek Szymański (tenor), Dariusz Stanisław Wójcik (bass), and Rafał Lewandowski (piano) will perform songs from the World War II era, with special emphasis on Warsaw Uprising songs composed by Andrzej Panufnik, Michał Zieliński, and Jan Markowski, arranged by Rafał Lewandowski.
This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the death of poet Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. Dariusz Szymanik will read his poems, as well as letters from insurgents and excerpts from speeches by President of Warsaw Stefan Starzyński and President of the Republic of Poland Władysław Raczkiewicz.
