The Silesian Chamber Players Quintet will perform at the revitalized "Ignacy" Coal Mine

Information about the event | Rybnik | 23 May 2026

On May 23, 2026 at 6.00 pm, the "Ignacy" Coal Mine in Rybnik will become a space where Silesia's industrial history meets its musical identity. During the concert of the "Silesia – Rhythms of Industry" series, performed by the Silesian Chamber Players Quintet, the audience will hear a program that combines contemporary references to the region's industrial character with folk inspirations.

The revitalized space of the former mine impresses with its rawness and authenticity. Steel structures, brick walls, and the traces of old machinery create an extraordinary backdrop where history remains alive. The program of the upcoming concert combines folk inspirations, classical forms, and contemporary references to the region's industrial character. It will feature Witold Lutosławski's 5 Folk Melodies, Grażyna Bacewicz's Oberek, Wojciech Kilar's famous Polonaise from the Pan Tadeusz film score, as well as waltzes from the movies The Promised Land and The Leper.

The evening will conclude with Adam Wesołowski's Industrial Symphony No 1. This contemporary work is a tribute to the region's industrial heritage. Sounds inspired by heavy industry, enriched with archival video footage showing the history of one of the largest and oldest Polish steelworks, create an incredibly evocative image of a vibrant Silesia, where the tradition of hard work and industrial development intertwines with the region's identity. The music, reflecting the sounds of machinery, the rhythm of labor, and the raw energy of industry, becomes a sound monument to the people and places that shaped the economic and cultural landscape of Silesia.
