The legendary American conductor will reveal to the Silesian audience magnificent, vitality-filled music inspired by French imagery. There will also be a Silesian perspective on the Orient through a French prism. This masterful picture will be painted firsthand by the baton master Lawrence Foster together with the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra on May 30, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The role of soloist at the Silesian Philharmonic will be performed by soprano Sylwia Olszyńska.
The concert will begin with Georges Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 in C major and the Overture to the opera Le roi d’Ys by Édouard Lalo.
The piece La flute de jade, composed by professor Eugeniusz Knapik of the Academy of Music in Katowice, written for soprano and orchestra, is inspired by Chinese poetry translated into French by Franz Toussaint, which gives it a unique, oriental character. Knapik creates rich yet subtle soundscapes. The work is full of lyricism and reflection, showcasing the composer’s mastery in combining tradition with modern musical elements.
The concert will conclude with the Suite No. 2 from the ballet Bacchus et Ariane by Albert Roussel.
The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the "Musician-in-Residence" program, funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The event is realized in cooperation with the Polish Music Publishing House as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting the performance of Polish music.
