The Scientific-Artistic Circle of the Department of Composition and Music Theory at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw invites you to the Student Conference "The Unknown Worth Knowing: Music and Word," which will take place at the UMFC on April 5-6, 2025, in a hybrid format. The conference will be concluded with an Inter-University Composer's Concert. Participation in the conference is free of charge. The deadline for submitting applications for speakers and composers is March 19, while the deadline for registering passive participants is April 4.
This year's edition of the conference is dedicated to the relationship between music and words – two inseparable elements of art and communication. It will provide a space to explore and delve into this interdisciplinary connection from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Topics that combine various fields and offer new insights into the interaction between music and text are particularly welcome.
The event is intended for all those interested in interdisciplinary research on the relationship between music and words and those wishing to expand their knowledge in this area: students of music theory, musicology, composition, conducting, and other fields at music academies and universities.
The organizers invite students from undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs to co-create the Inter-University Composer’s Concert.
The conference language is Polish.
All participants of the conference, both speakers and listeners, are required to register via the conference application form. Submitting an abstract should include the title of the presentation and a short summary (150 to 200 words). The presentation time should not exceed 20 minutes.
Registration of works for the Inter-University Composer’s Concert is done through the concert application form. The condition for submitting a composition to the Inter-University Composer's Concert is sending the score, information about the performers and the ensemble. The composition should be intended for a chamber ensemble, and its duration should not exceed 10 minutes. Arranging performers for the piece is the composer’s responsibility.
Active participants will be informed of the acceptance of their paper and/or composition for the conference and/or concert no later than March 23.
The organizers do not provide transport or reimbursement for transport costs to the conference and concert venue.
