The Zielona Góra Philharmonic Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary!

Information about the event | Zielona Góra | 29 May 2026

On May 29, 2026, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic will hold a concert to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year. During this special event, the Philharmonic artists, performing under the batons of three conductors, will premiere three pieces specially commissioned for the occasion. In addition, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9—one of the greatest masterpieces of European music—will be presented.

For the last 70 years, the Tadeusz Baird Zielona Góra Philharmonic has remained one of the most important centers of musical life in the region. The anniversary concert will be an opportunity to reflect on the Philharmonic's rich history. The program for this evening combines contemporary Polish music with one of the most significant works in the history of European culture.

The audience will listen to the premiere of morphemes by Tomasz Opałka to the words of Maria Opałka (Peryt)—a piece for choir and orchestra in which the human voice becomes sonic matter, building a multidimensional acoustic space around the listeners. A special place will be held by Jubilee Music (Muzyka jubileuszowa) by Czesław Grabowski—a conductor, composer, and long-standing director of the Zielona Góra institution. The themes of this celebratory composition will include ceremonial fanfares. Next, the artists will present Song Without Words (Pieśń bez słów) by Rafał Kłoczko—the current director of the Philharmonic, also a conductor and composer—which was inspired by the poetry of Julian Tuwim.

The evening will culminate with the performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9—a work that has remained a symbol of humanism, freedom, and brotherhood for the last two centuries. The monumental finale, featuring Friedrich Schiller's Ode to Joy, will remind the audience of the timeless idea of community and the power of culture to build bonds between people.

The Zielona Góra stage will feature wonderful soloists during the concert: Magdalena Stefaniak (soprano), Magdalena Pluta (mezzosoprano), Adrian Janus (baritone), and Adrian Domarecki (tenor), joined by two choirs: the Maritime University of Szczecin Choir and the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Choir. The Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Czesław Grabowski, Rafał Kłoczko, and violinist-conductor Jakub Przybycień, assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
